Itinerary Summary

Day 1. Welcome to Tequisquiapan. This is a charming Pueblo Mágico (Magic Town) in the state of Querétaro, known for its colonial charm, wine and cheese culture, and relaxed atmosphere.

Day 2. Tequisquiapan town tour. Temazcal experience. Temazcal is a traditional pre-Hispanic steam bath used by indigenous cultures in Mesoamerica for healing, purification, and spiritual rituals.

​Day 3. Bernal tour. This beautiful town is home to the third largest monolith in the world.

​Day 4. San Joaquín tour. Set against the forests of the Sierra Gorda biosphere reserve, San Joaquín has a lot to brag about. For instance, the archaeological site, Ranas, that has been well-preserved and takes you back in time.

​Day 5. City tour in Querétaro. Santiago de Querétaro, often just called Querétaro, is one of Mexico’s most historically significant and culturally rich cities.

​Day 6. Querétaro haciendas. Querétaro is home to many haciendas, which are historic estates that once served as agricultural, livestock, or mining centers during colonial times. Today, many have been restored as luxury hotels, event venues, or cultural attractions.

 Day 7. Independence tour. Querétaro played a crucial role in the Mexican War of Independence (1810). The conspiracy that led to the revolt was planned here.

​Day 8. Cooking class. you'll learn to prepare traditional dishes, explore local ingredients, and enjoy a hands-on culinary experience.

​Day 9. Adiós Querétaro.

Hidalgo - for nature lovers

Named after Miguel Hidalgo, the father of Mexican independence, this state is in central Mexico and it is known for its rich history, indigenous heritage, natural beauty, and delicious food (pastes, barbacoa, ximbo).

Day 1. Welcome to Pachuca, Hidalgo's capital city.


Day 2. Pachuca city tour.

​

Day 3. Real del Monte town tour. This is a charming Pueblo Mágico, famous for its silver mining history, British influence, and delicious pastes. Located in the mountains at 2,700 meters (8,900 feet) above sea level, it has a cool, misty climate and a picturesque colonial feel. It is here where British people introduced fútbol (soccer) to Mexico—the first recorded match in the country was played here!

After Real del Monte we'll head to Huasca de Ocampo, the first Pueblo Mágico, where we are going to stay.

Day 4. Bosque de las Truchas (Trout Forest). Nestled in the forests of the Sierra de Hidalgo, it offers a peaceful retreat with crystal-clear lakes and the opportunity to catch our own fish and have it prepared at nearby restaurants.

Day 5. Prismas Basálticos. Stunning hexagonal basalt rock formations with waterfalls.

Day 6. Pottery class.

Day 8. Mineral del Chico. Founded in 1565, it was one of New Spain’s most important silver mining centers. The town’s cobblestone streets, colorful houses, and colonial architecture make it feel like a step back in time.

Day 9. Archaeological site of Tula. Tula was the capital of the Toltec civilization (900–1150 AD) and is known for its impressive Atlantes de Tula—massive warrior statues that dominate the ruins.

Day 10. Adiós Hidalgo.

Día de Muertos in the Mayan Culture

"Hanal Pixan" is the Mayan version of the Day of the Dead and is celebrated with great devotion in Yucatán. The term "Hanal Pixan" translates to "food of the souls" and reflects the Maya belief that, during this time, the souls of the departed return to enjoy the food offered them on the altars.

Day 1. Oct. 30. Thursday. Welcome to Mérida, the capital city of Yucatán and the heart of Mayan culture. 7pm. Parque Santa Lucía, a charming plaza with live music, restaurants, and cultural performances. Famous for its Thursday night serenades.

​

Day 2. Oct. 31. Friday. Mérida city tour: 

1. Plaza Grande (Main Square)

  • The heart of Mérida, surrounded by historic landmarks.

  • Great place to experience local culture and street performances.

2. Catedral de San Ildefonso

  • One of the oldest cathedrals in the Americas (built in the 1500s).

  • Features stunning colonial architecture and religious art.

3. Paseo de Montejo

  • A grand boulevard lined with French-style mansions from the 19th century.

  • Home to restaurants, cafes, and museums like Casa de Montejo.

4. Gran Museo del Mundo Maya

  • A must-visit for learning about Maya history, culture, and artifacts.

  • Features interactive exhibits and impressive sculptures.

5. Palacio de Gobierno

  • Houses beautiful murals depicting Yucatán’s history.

  • Offers a great insight into the region’s past and struggles.

6. Lucas de Gálvez Market

  • A lively local market selling fresh produce, handicrafts, and street food.

  • Perfect place to try cochinita pibil, panuchos, and marquesitas.

 

6pm. Artistic events related to the Day of the Dead traditions.

8pm. The procession of souls. This is a ceremonial parade where children and youth are dressed in typical Yucatecan costumes, representing dead people.

​

Day 3. Nov. 1. Saturday. Altar exhibition. Families, schools, and cultural organizations set up elaborate altars (altares de muertos) in public spaces, such as Plaza Grande or parks, to honor deceased loved ones. In addition to the visual display, there is usually an explanation of the altar’s meaning, detailing the Maya and Catholic influences behind each element. 

​

9pm. Video mapping onto the Cathedral facade to tell its history.

 

Day 4. Nov 2. Sunday. Mérida - Valladolid. Día de Muertos in Valladolid. Events and activities to be confirmed.

City tour of Valladolid, a hidden gem of Yucatán: Local market, Calzada de los Frailes, San Bernardino Convent.

 

Day 5. Nov. 3. Monday. Valladolid. Suytún cenote, Las Coloradas (Pink Lakes of Mexico)

 

Day 6. Nov. 4. Tuesday. Valladolid - Chichén Itzá - Izamal. Chichén Itzá was a major political, economic, and religious center from around 600 to 1200 AD. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Chichén Itzá is one of the New Seven Wonders of the World and remains a popular archaeological and tourist destination. After Chichen Itza, we'll head to Izamal, where we'll stay.

 

Day 7. Nov. 5. Wednesday. Izamal, known as "La Ciudad Amarilla" (The Yellow City), is a charming colonial town and Pueblo Mágico that is famous for its vibrant yellow-painted buildings and rich blend of Maya and Spanish influence.

Izamal tour: Convent of San Antonio de Padua. Kinich Kakmó (one of the largest Maya pyramids in Mexico by volume), and Maya ruins of Itzamatul.

 

Day 8. Nov. 6. Thursday.  Izamal - Mérida. Free afternoon.

Day 1.    Thursday.  Arrive in Oaxaca City.  Drop your bags and sip a mezcalito.

Day 2.    Friday.  Walking tour visiting the historic dristrict: Santo Domingo Church, Oaxaca’s Ethnobotanical Garden, and Benito  Juárez & 20 de Noviembre Markets.

Day 3.    Saturday.  

a) Alebrije's town of San Martin Tilcajete where we'll learn how to make an alebrije. Lunch in town.

b) San Bartolo Coyotepec, renowned for its world-famous black pottery, a tradition dating back over 2,500 years, and is a must-visit for artisan enthusiasts. 

Day 4.    Sunday.    Monte Albán. Monte Albán is an ancient archaeological site, the capital of the Zapotec civilization that flourished between 500 BCE and 800 CE, making it one of the earliest and most significant urban centers in Mesoamerica. 

Day 5.    Monday.  

a) HIerve El Agua, known for its petrified waterfalls and mineral-rich pools. The formations resemble cascading water but are actually created by mineral deposits over thousands of years. 

b) Teotitlán del Valle, a historic Zapotec village, famous for its traditional handwoven textiles. Local artisans use natural dyes and centuries-old techniques to create intricate rugs and tapestries, often featuring geometric and indigenous designs.

c) Mezcal tasting. a traditional Mexican distilled alcoholic beverage made from the agave plant. Unlike tequila, which is made specifically from blue agave, mezcal can be produced from various types of agave, giving it a wide range of flavors. 

Day 6.    Tuesday.  Museum of Cultures of Oaxaca and pedestrian tourist walkway (Andador turístico).

Day 7.    Wednesday. Free day. 

Day 8.    Thursday. Xochimilco and Jalatlaco neighborhoods.

Day 9.    Friday.  ¡Adiós Oaxaca!

Booking and Reservation

1.1. To make a reservation, students must provide accurate personal information and adhere to the payment terms specified by Saber, Spanish language Cultural Center.

​

1.2. A deposit of $100 USD is required to secure the booking and 50% will be paid 4 weeks later. Your payment must be completed 30 days prior to the travel services start.

​

1.3. Cancellations are subject to the terms outlined in Section 3.

​

2.1. Cancellation requests must be submitted in writing to rosalilia.gutierrez@gmail.com

2.2. Cancellations made 30 days before the trip are eligible for a refund. The amount of the refund will depend on third parties services and a penalty of $100 USD for management fees.

2.3 No refunds will be issued for cancellations made within 7 days of the trip start date.

3.6. Travelers should check and comply with health and vaccination requirements for the destination, in case they are required.
